Hello Hands On Learning Design Studio

I have been signed on for this course but not done much with it so far. Just added an RSS feed from this blog to my profile.

Previously I was part of the OLDS MOOC so I think i have an idea of how the Learning Design Studio will go. I still have much the same sort of dreams or aims. It is even more vague though than how to mix video from several angles of view. I am working on a radio show where we try to borrow from other sources.

More on this later, an possibly more comment on the Design Studio. I am looking in from time to time.

Probably this is the best place to start

this will find versions of keynote ( may also need #mtw3 )

The #tags show the streams / issues that follow on. See headings in LinkedIn group

#BSclients

In the recent edition of a Manager’s Guide to Self Development the question is asked why web companies do not consult with business schools. No answers so far but no suggestion that they do.

#Virtual

Not a priority till more people use virtual worlds. However the conference is organised by Linda Shelton who is based in Twinity. ( Will Pollard is her contact in the world of Google etc. )

#Publish

Knowledge Unlatched is part of innovation at the Work Foundation. This topic has expanded to include all forms of publishing that might result from the conference. This is a suitable conclusion and links back to the keynote themes of the learning organisation reconsidered with online technology.

review before and after BETT / Learning Technologies  (end Jan )  and IPEX ( end March )

(#Publish is a new tag)

Since IPEX I have become more aware of the “Internet of Things” , linked devices such as cars and thermostats. At IPEX, mostly a print show,  there was interest in 3D printing and also printed circuits on clothing or any object. The internet previous to this may be called an internet of content. At least the loop in the structure above could be stable enough for a while as the changes in publishing continue.

#mtw3 revives as sideline for Organising Across Borders

Not sure how this will work but it is possible that the online aspects of #mtw3 will be revived around the time of "Organising and Managing Across Borders", a conference organised by AMED at the Work Foundation on 10th and 11th September. As explained in previous posts #mtw3 is a continuation of conferences on Management Theory at Work. so far there has not been a suitable occasion for a real space version though the Work Foundation is the obvious spot to continue discussion from Lancaster that originally included academics and practice. AMED has the description " developing people, developing organisations" and is the Association for Management and Development. I guess it will be mostly about practice but the theory aspect of #mtw3 might fit in as well. I think this will be explored online over the next few weeks.

The dates in the previous post show how this might fit with other occasions. I am getting quite vague about time and space but it may just be a sunshine drift sort of thing. Radio is getting to me as well as I realise I am just in a studio talking about somewhere. See YouTube and twitter for more about this - @will789gb should find it.

Events through September

I thought the summer would be quiet but it turns out there are several events and the next few weeks will be quite packed. As I now contribute to a radio show on both Tuesday and Wednesday I will try to link this to the content, maybe through pre recording something.

Next Wednesday    Visit Seale Hayne     Access All Aerials     find out more

25th June Wed      Customer Focus  Deming SIG in London

what do the listeners expect from FM? what sort of system surrounds it?

9th July   Mobility Live    , an online event   http://www.mobilitylive.co.uk/

start at desktop, afternoon explore wifi Exeter

16 / 17 August   Beer Festival Seale Hayne

how to do a chat show at a beer festival? previous attempt in Exeter Castle not yet resolved

4th September  Systems Thinking Deming SIG Manchester

11th /12th Sept  Gathering on Organising and Managing across boundaries

these two may fit together or may contrast I think

October  November there are events that usually form part of the calendar but have been cancelled. Cross Media would continue from IPEX. Online Information survived as a conference for a couple of years. I will try to relate to something online. The Mobility Live event could be a good test for how online works out.

One aim is to continue with #mtw3 , an online version of Management Theory at Work. More on this later. this blog will try to link things together at various dates over these months.

MOOCS still in UK think about it mode, USA maybe more vocational

I get the impression there is still a UK base for opinion that MOOCs are still something to be thought about later or maybe they will go away. I notice Peter Scott has stopped writing about them. Last year he was very reluctant and recently  considered the finances of UK universities without any technology to reduce costs, expand the market or just connect with something worth study.

Meanwhile in the USA there seems to be a new emphasis on vocational courses. Maybe this is just better suited to what MOOC technology can offer. Maybe there is some connection between the content and new situations. Meris Stansbury writes in eCampus News about Udacity and competency based programs.

These may be the sort of courses UK universities don't want to get involved with anyway. But it may turn out later that something has got momentum on a different basis.
