Isca Wheelchair Dancers on YouTube from Exeter Cathedral, other camera angles? BBC?

I have now loaded two camera angles from the Isca Wheelchair Dancers at disAbility Sunday.

Only trouble is that because of the music they cannot be Creative Commons.

The BBC was also there and I think there will be something on news this evening and Spotlight tomorrow. So there could be another edit later. Spotlight is welcome to use any of this, I think the BBC has a method to find stuff on YouTube.

More later. The cathedral has a video network but so far not much recording.

Cross Media starts IPEX discussion

Nick Craig Waller concludes: “We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our inaugural event. For marketers, creatives and publishers, Cross Media 2012 provided the ideal platform to view the latest technologies, solutions and applications they need to execute their cross media campaigns. In addition, print service providers were able to hear case studies and panel discussions about diversifying their offering to marketing service providers. Judging by the fantastic attendance of all these seminars and initial feedback from exhibitors, these topics clearly hit the mark and we will continue to build on this for Cross Media 2013 and its extension into Ipex 2014.”

Cross Media 2013 will take place from 23-24 October 2013 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.

With a bit of luck these dates in October may coincide with term-time for the London College of Communication.

Also I have found the walking route from King's Cross via the canal till it hits the tunnel. The University of the Arts is not far away from Islington so there could be some connection. The seminars this year were well attended and the issues could scale.

Adobe at Cross Media Live, video on video and PDF #CrossMedia2012

Here is a start on video from Cross Media Live.

I think this is such a large event it will take a while to edit and think about it. Most of the ideas are not new but they are unusual in a print context. The return of Adobe may be because although Adobe has not changed much the balance of issues around IPEX has shifted.

Still no news about a new Acrobat but good to see something by way of promotion. And the print side of Acrobat was mentioned towards the end. ( This is just a straight upload, there will be an edit with the start of this talk later )

Video seems to me to be the main innovation, quite different as a form of communication and the level of bandwidth needed for distribution. TV could go the way of music and print, but not so soon.

Another thought, what would HP have shown if they had been there? Talk of phones and tablets there was plenty but I don't remember HP being mentioned.

Imagined Bandwidth - Exeter / Islington

Mr Cameron said: "Let me explain what this reshuffle is all about: it is not that there are two economic departments in our country, the Treasury and business.

"I want every single department to be about the economy. I want the transport department building roads, I want the communities department building houses, I want the culture department rolling out broadband, I want the agriculture department backing British food."

http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/2012/09/05/pm-new-team-focused-on-growth-84229-31772494/

I heard this as a clip on the Today show. This is very interesting. Can we imagine broadband? Is art part of PR?

Thinking of one example. There is a large BT building in the middle of Exeter, not far from the Phoenix. Could we imagine that broadband was possible in an area close to it? I have tried this sort of thing before but now seems to be a good time to try this again.

We can always send a DVD in the post to somewhere else. One thing I noticed in the Business Design Centre during Cross Media Live was the fairly slow connections for the web demo and the tone of the remarks, especially from people usually working outside the UK. The upside of this is that for events Exeter could compare with Islington even if there is a magic roundabout for very special occasions.

Social media takes many video forms - Canon at Cross Media #CrossMedia2012

For various reasons I have only just got back to my desktop and it will take a while to go through the video and stills.

Cross Media was I think a major event, a definite change in how the print industry thinks about communication. So much so the decision to rename the London College of Printing may be seen eventually to have some sense. This may take a while of course.

Meanwhile a quick one from Canon

BPIF stand 52 at #crossmedia2012

In a previous post I stated that I could not find anything about the BPIF at Cross Media Live.

Now I have found they are at Stand 52.  But there is not much info yet as far as I can tell.

Sorry this post is short, getting ready to travel. Probably not much till later next week but in the greater scheme of things this show is at least a year late anyway.

Direct to Video, small quibble #Cross Media2012

Cross Media Live has set up a YouTube channel and subscribed to many related sources

So the online video is well connected to the actual event.

The main question this raises is for business to business print magazines. I can't yet see through YouTube much reference to the titles and publishers that might be expected.

What They Think has done a lot with video at IPEX and drupa but they rarely use YouTube directly. It will be interesting to search on YouTube and other sites next week and see how this develops.

I'm not sure this is the style of video best suited to YouTube. Maybe this is because most of what I do is low in production values. If we are moving away from broadcast mode towards conversation then maybe video needs a rethink.

Then again I am not in lean forward mode all the time. Later in the day just watching telly an advert may need to be really high impact to make any impression. But I still don't like it.

The curious case of the missing Anicolor #crossmedia12

At IPEX I noticed that digital was taking up more of the space. Xerox was close to Heidelberg and showing a fairly well integrated workflow.

Now Cross Media Live has some actual print, but from Canon, Ricoh and Fuji. Maybe others but these are the ones I notice from the web site.

Previously as a London show there was Digital Print World. I have found a link that shows what this was like

I can't remember the date when the name changed to something that included litho and Heidelberg was there. This is only a blog, I will do more checking before a report towards the end of next week. I don't think the Heidelberg stand was that big, just enough for a large device. I don't see why they could not be at a show like Cross Media Live and talk about short runs, even without kit.

Also  this article mentions PIRA and the BPIF. I can't see them on the website but they may be at the event.

Heidelberg has cancelled a stand at the next IPEX, but not at drupa 2016. The internet moves quite quickly and Cross Media is now part of it. Next week could indicate a changed situation.

Also mentioned in the article, the London College of Communications Futures Conference. Unfortunately this is not timed to coincide with Cross Media 2012 but I predict it will happen soon after the start of the new term.

The return of Adobe - video, Acrobat eleven? #crossmedia12

There is still no news about Acrobat release dates that I can find.

But Adobe will be at the Cross Media show next week. There was not much presence at IPEX. John Warnock and Chuck Gexchke were declared as Champions of Print but were unable to attend. I got the impression that a print show was not really the sort of space required for the Adobe brand.

But now that the emphasis is on "Cross Media" , Adobe presents the Creative Theatre on all the available slots for the second day. So day one may raise some policy issues. Day two probably covers most of the required techniques.

11.15 is still titled as Acrobat X, no clues as to what a new release might be like.

I still think there is interest in PDF for print. If Adobe is not working on any new releases then the next stage might be a price drop for the equivalent of previous versions. Photoshop Elements is fantastic value, I should add.

Adobe is still looking at video and various devices. Recent links

so another try at explaining JDF to a general Acrobat audience could be just a bit boring

Two docs now on Scribd, agenda for #mtw3 and sheets for Design Envelope

Scribd uploads seemed not to be working at the end of last week so two have just been uploaded.

YouTube Playlist starts off #mtw3 online

This playlist is a start on an online version of Management Theory at Work

It takes over four hours but this is not essential. There are two versions of the opening keynote by John Burgoyne. One has a better view of the slides but voice only.

Then it is mostly about design. The extracts from Phonic are just comments really, but listen out tomorrow for some more. 10 to 10.30.

Scientific Leadership could relate to Design Science, as described in Diana Laurillard's recent book ( the talkk is ahead of publication but covers similar themes)

Gibson Burrell describes the range of what Design might mean to different people.

Frankly I have not yet found the hour and a half to view completely The Design Science of Collaboration. But I will return to it. These days are just a wakeup from summer drift, there is still plenty of time.

My visit to Telecafe can double as Work Foundation during #mtw3 tst

This is from a few minutes ago in Twinity. I will visit again over the next few days. There is a current test of #mtw3 which may also happen as a face2face at the Work Foundation. Meanwhile the street level views in Twinity are still not available so there is no environment for a virtual Work Foundation. But the Telecafe is circular so can be a set for a cafe on the higher floors of the Work Foundation building.

Please let me know if you also plan to visit. Or there may be later collage or something.

testing codes for #mtw3 agenda

For some reason Scribd not working at the moment. Maybe later. Meanwhile on Acrobat a one page guide to the next three days. Quite what will happen is unknown of course.

Heidelberg, IPEX, catching up on news #mtw3 #CrossMedia2012

Email from WhatTheyThink informs me about news that Heidelberg will not be at IPEX 2014. Checking on blogsearch this was announced last week so I am still catching up. I have put the #mtw3 tag in as this news is a significant event for Heidelberg and IPEX and connects with management theory.

IPEX is a large print show that happens every four years. Gradually there has been more digital technology on show but the heavy metal litho kit has defined the event. Heidelberg has always had the central position and started off the press conferences etc.

Of the blogs found so far I agree with Jo Francis that this is a shock.

Just eight weeks ago in the face of HP’s decision not to participate (having never said it would do so) Heidelberg UK MD Gerard Heanue reiterated the fact that Heidelberg had signed a contract and would be there. A whole eight months ago the company firmed up its plans to exhibit and went public with that commitment, considerably earlier than it had for Ipex 2010. If there had been any inkling that the group had been wavering about attending, why make these statements?
So, in my book Heidelberg’s withdrawal can be counted as an unexpected turn of events, driven by a decision from head office. And judging by the reaction from other exhibitors, it has absolutely come as a shock to them.

Andrew Tribute appears to be describing as normal something that is also disruptive or could be seen as such

I am not really surprised by Heidelberg’s decision not to exhibit at Ipex 2014. If you are going to exhibit at a major international trade show you really need a good reason to be there. One reason would be you have new products to release and I don’t think Heidelberg will have anything really new. Offset printing technology is very mature and developments are mainly around the periphery of the systems. Heidelberg, like a few other companies, targets major releases at drupa and this means 2016 for such products.

But a lot of people are just Heidelberg fans. A visit to IPEX was reassurance, not depending on specific new products. Tribute is just as calm about the sort of change indicated-

Looking beyond Ipex I think we may be seeing a trend and this is the end of offset presses at trade shows. There is little new to see in offset printing these days, together with the fact there is a major over capacity in offset printing around most parts of the world. We are seeing a switch of many areas of offset printing to digital printing, and with advanced inkjet and liquid toner electrophotographic presses this is likely to accelerate. Perhaps future trade shows will be entirely digital, and also smaller and more targeted at niche markets.

This is defining a very different industry. Maybe the shift has already happened. Colin Gillman in Graphic Display World claims that nobody he talks to has major plans for investment in litho.

This is mostly because the market has shifted its focus towards the acceptance of digital and inkjet production technology. It’s also called progress.

He continues by looking at the history of corporate inertia, including Xerox and Kodak.

What I have not found so far is any link to Cross Media Live, the new show from Informa that will be in Islington early in September.  There is speculation that Heidelberg may invest in new regional shows closer to the locations where there is interest in litho. Cross Media Live may be a local show along the lines of Southprint but it is in a location where there is a social base for digital media. It could include a major theme on digital printing every year even though the larger kit was only shown at IPEX.

Most of this blog will be back to #mtw3 in general. I had intended to do more about communication but this news is enough to be thinking about.

Comms update #CrossMedia2012

A bit of browsing after previous post reveals-

No info on an update Acrobat. But the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Adobe are spending about $5m a month on a building in Utah which could be one of three with 3,000 employees. This is all about digital marketing. I don't think there is a booth for Adobe at Cross Media but some info may turn up.

The Guardian is posting a lot of video on YouTube, including on the new football season -

so more happening than I thought just based on buying the paper on a Monday.

Printweek has a channel but there is only one video

This is about the Power of Print, a special supplement so not sure what else will happen. There are other videos involving Printweek but they are posted by companies and individuals.

RicohTV  seems likely some companies will spend on video production and go direct to YouTube. What is happening with business to business magazines? Don't rely just on what you read.

I have to guess at an English translation but Oce TV is still working at something.
