Cross Media starts IPEX discussion
Nick Craig Waller concludes: “We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our inaugural event. For marketers, creatives and publishers, Cross Media 2012 provided the ideal platform to view the latest technologies, solutions and applications they need to execute their cross media campaigns. In addition, print service providers were able to hear case studies and panel discussions about diversifying their offering to marketing service providers. Judging by the fantastic attendance of all these seminars and initial feedback from exhibitors, these topics clearly hit the mark and we will continue to build on this for Cross Media 2013 and its extension into Ipex 2014.”
Cross Media 2013 will take place from 23-24 October 2013 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
With a bit of luck these dates in October may coincide with term-time for the London College of Communication.
Also I have found the walking route from King's Cross via the canal till it hits the tunnel. The University of the Arts is not far away from Islington so there could be some connection. The seminars this year were well attended and the issues could scale.

Imagined Bandwidth - Exeter / Islington
Mr Cameron said: "Let me explain what this reshuffle is all about: it is not that there are two economic departments in our country, the Treasury and business.
"I want every single department to be about the economy. I want the transport department building roads, I want the communities department building houses, I want the culture department rolling out broadband, I want the agriculture department backing British food."
I heard this as a clip on the Today show. This is very interesting. Can we imagine broadband? Is art part of PR?
Thinking of one example. There is a large BT building in the middle of Exeter, not far from the Phoenix. Could we imagine that broadband was possible in an area close to it? I have tried this sort of thing before but now seems to be a good time to try this again.
We can always send a DVD in the post to somewhere else. One thing I noticed in the Business Design Centre during Cross Media Live was the fairly slow connections for the web demo and the tone of the remarks, especially from people usually working outside the UK. The upside of this is that for events Exeter could compare with Islington even if there is a magic roundabout for very special occasions.

My visit to Telecafe can double as Work Foundation during #mtw3 tst
This is from a few minutes ago in Twinity. I will visit again over the next few days. There is a current test of #mtw3 which may also happen as a face2face at the Work Foundation. Meanwhile the street level views in Twinity are still not available so there is no environment for a virtual Work Foundation. But the Telecafe is circular so can be a set for a cafe on the higher floors of the Work Foundation building.

Heidelberg, IPEX, catching up on news #mtw3 #CrossMedia2012
Just eight weeks ago in the face of HP’s decision not to participate (having never said it would do so) Heidelberg UK MD Gerard Heanue reiterated the fact that Heidelberg had signed a contract and would be there. A whole eight months ago the company firmed up its plans to exhibit and went public with that commitment, considerably earlier than it had for Ipex 2010. If there had been any inkling that the group had been wavering about attending, why make these statements?Andrew Tribute appears to be describing as normal something that is also disruptive or could be seen as such
So, in my book Heidelberg’s withdrawal can be counted as an unexpected turn of events, driven by a decision from head office. And judging by the reaction from other exhibitors, it has absolutely come as a shock to them.
I am not really surprised by Heidelberg’s decision not to exhibit at Ipex 2014. If you are going to exhibit at a major international trade show you really need a good reason to be there. One reason would be you have new products to release and I don’t think Heidelberg will have anything really new. Offset printing technology is very mature and developments are mainly around the periphery of the systems. Heidelberg, like a few other companies, targets major releases at drupa and this means 2016 for such products.
Looking beyond Ipex I think we may be seeing a trend and this is the end of offset presses at trade shows. There is little new to see in offset printing these days, together with the fact there is a major over capacity in offset printing around most parts of the world. We are seeing a switch of many areas of offset printing to digital printing, and with advanced inkjet and liquid toner electrophotographic presses this is likely to accelerate. Perhaps future trade shows will be entirely digital, and also smaller and more targeted at niche markets.
This is mostly because the market has shifted its focus towards the acceptance of digital and inkjet production technology. It’s also called progress.
