Notes for Beer Festival chatshow

Over the next few weeks there may be several conversations connected with similar ideas as those discussed during Beer At The Castle a while ago. Including how the internet changes possibilities for content creation or performance or whatever you want to call it. Meanwhile I continue with the Leuphana course on the Commons and try to interest more people in Creative Commons legal options.

I think we need a new level and the time could be right. Falling asleep / not being able to fall asleep i recently heard a discussion on Up all Night / Radio 5 live in which Games journalists talked about channels on YouTube. Can't remember very well but at least this topic area is viable. By the way "native advertising" now so widespread don't worry about if you are a journalist or not.

So maybe best to look at Creative Commons as a way to protect and prepare for a protected version with a production budget. What happened to the original culture also an issue.

Meanwhile through Facebook I discover that Jo Gedrych is close to Sidmouth or has been recently. Now in Wales but he may be back next week. I am going to continue through Wild Show and @wenotno assuming that some conversation is through social media.

The reality of a chat show at a beer festival may rely on recreation in a studio later and then some editing. It could be seen as a sort of script with rehearsal. Could also include coffee in daytime, sometimes more sensible as radio.

From previously

Where are the 4k cities? on YouTube maybe?

I have now got a Sony Experia with a 4k camera. so this may become my main camera instead of the trusty Kodak Zi8.  I don't think I will actually upload much through the phone. Much more likely to use wi-fi or take it home to a desktop for a bit of an edit. But in theory this could be quite quick to broadcast news or an interview.

I think you can combine AR and video. The guide shows it for stills so why not video? But I can't find anything on YouTube already. Some sort of 3d barcode or known image prompts something else and it all appears as one scene. Do I need an app? which one and where? In Exeter we have had projections onto buildings during Animated Exeter for a while now. something similar should be possible screen by screen. and if it is in 4k the screen could be quite large.

See previous post about Google and fiber cities. A lot of this technology is not making much sense. I actually use about half the resolution that the Zi8 can offer and it is ok for YouTube I think. Somewhere there may be a city that has enough home screens showing 4k that broadcast is viable. Also enough bandwidth that phones can reach this faster than an SD card in a taxi. But where? And is there some video of the city streets plus some AR?

Probably in Exeter within the next five years or so. But we need some examples from far away, seems to be how the arts world operates.

Leuphana Commons course getting to crunch time

I am just about hanging in with the Leuphana course. Still nobody else active in my group. I don't think there is much awareness of Creative Commons. For example this video is very sound and mentions open source and law, but not Creative commons.

By the way, this is private on YouTube, but Creative commons so the Remix button is there. I am only getting feedback from people I meet in actual life such as Phonic FM so feel ok about showing the link. You might want to sign up for the next course and get better access to the info.

There will be role playing games soon and detailed discussions about resources. So where is YouTube at round about now? Creative Commons continues as an option but the advertising push is going ahead very strongly. Not sure where the culture is. But we need some resources for better video. I think I have reached a stage where the potential is clearly demonstrated. How to move on with more video around Phonic FM or some sort of local television?

The beer festival next month at Seale Hayne will be a chance to continue the conversations from Beer At The Castle five years ago. Possibly the relevance of Creative Commons is as a basis for renegotiating if there is some combination with an income. Not sure how proper editing for broadcast could happen but it is a possibility.

Tobe continued via The Wild Show and @wenotno . Sidmouth Folk Week always inspiring but it can be misleading as an environment. Soon after there can be shocks from other cultures.

We Don't Know next week cross over with classics

Design problem for next week is how to fit with the Classical Journey given that the usual presenter may not be there. Luch Càise-Dearg will probably be away, this summer phase is quite varied. So the We Don't Know show could start early. this week we had a talk bout Albert Hall's Flying Aces but the interview with Patricia Hammond was at the start of the program.

Luch also spoke about the Leo Green Experience, playing dance music in Branscombe Hall, and Bratislava Hot Serenaders who were at the Barnfield Theatre. So my plan A is to replay the interview with Patricia Hammond and then find some links to the others. I may include some classics as well. I have one new CD as my cousin Sara Trickey was part of the Budleigh festival. Can't say much sensible about it but it should fit in ok.

I notice there is a Facebook page for the show where people can add info on events. I will check this out to find some clues for tracks.

Otherwise I will expand on Cole Porter. We have been playing a Dionne Warwick CD as a crossover point and I can find other versions of the songs over most of the years but not as far back as the start of the Flying Aces, apparently around 1912.

This week's show

Will Pollard Show new focus for learning with design science

Not sure how long this will last but I think radio is so interesting at the moment that I will concentrate some theory on the situation. Previously I was working on printing with an ISO 9000 system and have continued to study how this can work. As mentioned in recent posts the world of print is still a bit stuck as far as I can make it out. The Guardian is not doing much to describe itself. Anyway, back on topic.

Sound is actually very large files compared to txt but somehow the web seems to cope. I filled up my free space on Spreaker and so upgraded. Now I have over 400 hours to fill. This could be a lot faster than print publishing. I have done an edit of the show on Thursday to make it closer to 90 minutes. Not sure how this would fit with the stream on Access All Aerials. I will try to stick to multiples of 30 minutes. Much of it will be going back in time. I have been doing the Wild Show for a while now. I can't get too much into theory without losing the audience but there could be some linking bits for sound that already exists.

The one from Thursday is titled "Proposed sounds - 80s installation / venue" . This is now fairly convincing as a case that such a project is possible. All we are claiming is that the radio show will report developments. any links welcome. Guests also, needs a bit of time to arrange.

Design Science seems easier to work with than ISO 9000 or quality theory. So far not much video has been possible in this area. Much of the ISO 9000 content is fairly formal. Maybe it has to be. There is not the sort of casual conversation that invites people to add a comment. It seems that Design Science is not yet established with organisation to promote / endorse it. Maybe I have missed this. Anyway design is open enough as an idea that I can introduce it during the show. JD claims that radio is an art, not a science, but I think this depends on whether he is in presenter mode or tending towards being a producer. He certainly measures the minutes to go before coffee.

YouTube and other video could be more casual and mashed up. I have worked out how to select Creative Commons and how to use the Remix button. There is a video of the chat / keynote for #mtw3 but so far nobody has chosen to select out a clip. I will try to do some more on this.

Maybe later there could be some more on ISO 9000. There is an update out next year. But some sort of design is a good start for working on the 400 hours.
